The Calling

Seven people in a pub.

Something important has just happened.

Or perhaps it’s about to happen.

Nobody seems to agree on what it is.

This drawing was inspired by Caravaggio’s The Calling of Saint Matthew, but I wanted to preserve the ambiguity that makes the original so compelling.

Who is being chosen?
Who is pointing at whom?
What has caught everyone’s attention?

I have my own interpretation, but I’m more interested in yours.
